Application Process

Once you have submitted your application, our HR Team will review it.

Depending on the job you have applied for, the recruitment process may vary. You may be invited to complete different types of assessments. Before embarking on these, we strongly suggest you prepare and make use of any practice opportunities.

Following this, you may be invited to an interview. This could be a pre-recorded, virtual or face-to-face interview. There may also be multiple interviews depending on the role you have applied for. You can find some interview tips in our ‘How to Prepare for an Interview’ section below.

If you are the selected candidate, we will contact you to offer you the role (on a conditional basis) and the pre-employment process will begin. This will involve:

  • A drug and alcohol test
  • A background check, verifying the information you provided as part of the job.

For advice on how to make your application stand out and success in an interview, see ‘How to Create a CV that Stands Out’ and ‘How to Prepare for an Interview.’

How to Create a CV that Stands Out

  1. Tailor your CV/Cover Letter to the job you are applying for by reviewing the job description and necessary skills.
  2. Be clear and concise.
  3. Use action words, facts and figures to demonstrate and quantify your impact.
  4. Make sure you proofread your CV before submitting it. Check for spelling mistakes, poor grammar, date conflicts or incorrect contact details. If possible, ask a friend or family member to read it as they might notice something you haven’t.

How To Prepare for an Interview

  • Identify the skills and competencies required for the role. You can do this by looking at the job description. Use these to prepare answers to interview questions. A useful tool to help you provide structured and concise answers to competency-based questions is the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
  • Do your research on Phillips 66. This will allow you to know if Phillips 66 is a place you would like to work at and help you prepare for any questions that may come up in the interview. You can keep up to date with the latest news updates by following our LinkedIn or by looking at our company website.
  • Do your research on the industry as this will demonstrate your interest in joining the company and your views on the future of the company.
  • If it is a virtual interview, make sure you are in a quiet space, free from any distractions. We also recommend checking you have a stable internet connection to ensure the interview runs smoothly. If you encounter any technical issues, please make the interviewer aware so they can help you.
  • Be yourself — whilst it is normal to be nervous, we want you to be yourself during the interview as this will allow us to see how well you would fit into the role and company. If you feel nervous, take your time to answer your questions and feel free to take a few moments.
  • Ask questions that are important to you as an individual. These could be related to the role, company or application process. Please ensure these are appropriate.
  • If your interview is in person, prepare your route to the office, allowing extra time for any delays to ensure you remain as calm as possible. Your interviewer will provide you with all the information you need to access the office.
