Apprenticeship Programme 

Our Apprenticeships offer a gateway for young professionals who thrive in practical and theoretical environments. With the recent introduction of new standards, these apprenticeships are now available across a broader range of career paths.

Apprenticeships offer a first step into a career for individuals who don’t want to remain in full-time formal education. Through a robust training curriculum, participants gain tangible, transferable skills that lay the foundation for future opportunities.

London Industrial Placement Programme  

If you are looking for meaningful work experience, consider a placement with Phillips 66.

As an undergraduate placement student, you’ll contribute to important work that helps shape decisions that maximise value for employees, shareholders and customers, and drive improved performance.

Our placement scheme is the starting point to identify and cultivate talented, passionate people- building a future-ready workforce and helping you launch an extraordinary future after graduation.

Successful candidates gain valuable business experience working in areas like:

  • Renewable Fuels and Sustainability
  • Market Analysis

Applications typically open in January, with the Placement roles starting in the summer.


Humber Refinery Industrial Placements  

At the Phillips 66 Humber Refinery, we offer annual industrial placements in chemical, electrical, instrument and mechanical engineering disciplines that provide, rewarding work experience with real tasks and responsibilities.

You’ll work on projects alongside our experienced engineers, putting your theoretical skills into practice and gaining invaluable experience within a business environment. You’ll benefit from  a dedicated mentor who can provide professional assistance and personal support. Should you do well during your time with us, you may be considered for a graduate position upon completion of your degree.

If you’re not studying engineering, we also offer industrial placements in other teams, including:

  • Laboratory for chemistry students
  • Procurement for law or business students
  • IT
  • Finance

Applications typically open in September or October for start dates the following summer.


Phillips 66 Graduate Development Programme (London)

Our two-year Graduate Development Programme allows you to experience two rotations across Commercial, Marketing and Corporate. If you are interested in pursuing a career in Trading, Emerging Energy, Sales or Marine, our graduate roles offer you an opportunity to gain real insight and experience without being committed to a single path.

We advertise our Graduate Programme in September, for an intake the following summer.

What do we look for? We welcome applicants who:

  • Hold the legal right to live and work in the UK on a permanent basis without restrictions or the role you are applying for meets the criteria for employer sponsorship.
  • Are on target for or have already achieved a 2:1 degree classification or higher.
  • Are talented analytical individuals with strong numerical capabilities and economic evaluation skills.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have a flair for problem-solving and can work effectively within a team and independently.
  • Have proficient knowledge and experience of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Can demonstrate effective organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Have a passion and excitement for the energy industry.

Phillips 66 Graduate Roles (Humber Refinery)

Whether you’re a chemical, electrical, mechanical or instrument engineer, there is a place for you at the Humber Refinery. To prepare you for your new career, our new hire graduate program consists of significant training and development in your first five years of employment. You’ll have the opportunity to utilise your existing knowledge from university or a previous industrial placement to build new skill sets.

Our focus at the Humber Refinery is to help you gain a robust understanding of the refining process and the energy industry in a challenging environment that encourages innovation and values your contribution.

What can you expect?

  • Real-World Experience: You’ll gain hands-on experience by contributing to important and challenging projects, like supporting major capital projects, plant optimisation and initial project development studies.

What do we look for? We welcome applicants who:

  • Have a strong academic background with a degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Demonstrate technical skills and proficiency in engineering principles and practices, along with familiarity with industry-specific software and tools.
  • Show enthusiasm and initiative with a proactive attitude and eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Possess strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exhibit teamwork and collaboration with the ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines.
  • Have problem-solving abilities and strong analytical skills to address engineering challenges and optimise processes.
